About Canoe Sprint
Canoe Sprint is a water sport, athlete’s race with their boats in calm waters over a designated distance in their allocated lanes. The boats can be either a Canoe or a Kayak. This sport has various categories involving either one or multiple athletes and different boats.
This sport takes place on a straight course without any obstacles and requires a high level of hand speed and energy. The boat that crosses the finishing line first without any violation of rules gets declared as the winner. The race covers a distance of either 200m, 500m and 1000m.
International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the governing body of the Canoeing. They organize the sports; formulate the rules, and the design specifications of the boats and other equipment.

History
Canoe Sprint was known as water race and was played by the people as a casual sport since ancient. This sport gained popularity in the 19th century that saw the rise of many local clubs competing among themselves.
International Canoe Federation (ICF), established as the governing body for the sports. They organize and fomulate the rules and provide specifications for boats used in the competition.
Men’s Canoe Sprint was part of the Olympics since 1936 while women’s events were introduced in the 1948 Olympics and have been part ever since.
Objective
The objective of a Canoe Sprint competition is to complete the designated distance of the race in Kayaks or Canoes in minimum time and faster than any other athlete or team without violating the rules.

Boats
Canoe is a decked boat that are paddled by single blade paddle. Players must be kneeling inside the canoe for driving it.
Kayak is a decked boat that are paddled by a double-bladed paddle. Players must be sitting inside the kayak for driving it.

Boats
- The boats should be made up, of unsinkable material.
- The boats should be symmetrical upon its axis of length.
- The boats should not have any foreign substances added to their surfaces and usage of hull lubricant is strictly restricted.
- The athletes are responsible for adhering to the technical instructions laid down for the competition.
Players
- All the athletes should ensure that no part of their body is attached to the boat in any way. Any such attachments must be removed, before the start of the competition.
Race Officials
The following race officials keep a strict eye on the performance of the participants.
Chief Judge: The chief judge is the final adjudicator for all judging matters. Official video of each run gets recorded, and the chief judge may check the video footage in case of any disputes to determine the verdict. After the decision of the chief judge, it cannot be protested or contested.
Deputy Chief Judge: They closely assist the chief judge and the course coordinator.
Boat Controller: They allow only the athletes to participate in the race. They are also responsible for checking the boats of the athletes before or after the race.
Start Judge: The start judge permits a player to start. The judge may refuse to give the start permission, in case the player is not in proper gear or violates safety rules.
Finish Judge: The Finish Judge determines when an athlete has finished the course in the properly.
Rules Of Canoe Sprint
- The athletes should bring their boats to the start line on the signal from the start judge.
- The athletes should adhere strictly to the lanes allocated to them. A boat that leaves its lane gets disqualified.
- The athletes should not interfere in any way with other athletes during the race.
- The hull of the boat of an athlete crossing the finish line first gets declared as the winner.
- The athlete should cross the finish line with the boat upright. In case the boat gets capsized, the athlete gets disqualified.
- With the “Set” command, the athletes should place their paddle in the catch position.
- Athletes must only start when start umpire gives a “Go”. In case of a false start, a loud buzzer gets heard, and all the athletes should stop paddling.
- The athlete receives a warning on a false start. In case of a false start by the same athlete disqualifies the athlete.
- In case a paddle of an athlete gets broken during the race, no new paddle can be provided to the athlete by the supporting staff.
